Peter Jackson's WWI Replicas

I just picked up this months edition of Aeroplane Magazine and came across an interesting piece about Peter Jackson's original B.E.2 restoration is approaching the end of its rebuild.

However of even more interest was a note at the end of the piece mentioning his team has "recently completed four S.E.5a reproductions, built to the original specifications and to be powered by Hispano engines".

I can't imagine someone building four SEs for their own collection so unless he has plans to sell them, so could this perhaps add some credibility to the rumour that his next project might be a WWI aviation film?

Has anyone else heard details on these supposed four Hisso powered SE5s being built in NZ?

The February 1986 edition of Kitplanes has an article about Bobby Strahlmann who built 2 single seat and 1 dual SE5 all with Hispano Suiza E3 engines. These were apparently built from original drawings etc. Anyone know what happened to these aircraft or Bobby Stahlmann? Could these be the same aircraft?
Fokker pilots need to know if there will be sufficient opposition!

One of the Strahlmann a/c is with Javier Arango in CA, I believe one is at the Lone Star Flight Museum in TX (?), and the third maybe at the EAA Museum?

My Gallery
Looks like he's got a whole team of aircraft builders to come up with whatever he wishes to film - and in short order.

This video link takes about four minutes to download on a dsl set-up before it starts playing.

Peter Jackson's WWI aircraft

Having just returned from NZ where I attended the Classic Fighters 2005 air display, I had the opportunity to visit Peter Jackson's workshop. Yes, there are three flyable and one static S.E.5a being built. The fuselages were almost complete, the wings were in the process of being built. Engines, etc, have not been added as yet.

If my camera works I will try and post a photo.

peter has some really exciting news for the future, but you will have to wait for him to announce these.

Colin A Owers

PS there was a World War I British tank in the workshop - his second.

Great video AAC Cadet Leader!

Its really encouraging to see that he'd put that much effort into an airplane that isn't even for a film thats focus is aviation. Makes you wonder what he'd do on a aviation film!

Did you notice how thin Peter Jackson is ?
He must have lost at least 40 pounds since LoTR...
But it is a nice videoclip...
