Spad Two-seaters book just released by FMP!

After a wait of nearly two-years, Flying Machines Press has just released its latest title about the Spad Two-Seaters of WWI. It covers the SPAD SA types, SPAD 11, 16, and 20. It is profusely illustrated with tons of photos... it will become THE reference for the SA types, that is for sure. Bob Pearson did the color profiles, which look great as usual. Just got mine in the mail yesterday and have to keep picking it up and looking at it. Never mind that I did most of the photo work for it... it is nice to see it all together!

How´s the paper quality? I have the revised edition of their Austro-Hungarian Aircraft and it is printed on very poor paper. It seems to be priced at nearly 50 bucks and at that price I´d expect a 200-page softback to be printed on glossy art paper. It should remembered that in that sized book the difference between crude and glossy art paper is less than one USD per copy...

Matt,

FMP sent it to me directly. The paper is not quite as heavy as the Pfalz book, but similar in output. It is a bit thinner, but not glossy. It is thicker paper than Windsock Datafile pages, but similar to their normal magazine stock. It is loaded with photographs. If ever you wanted good photo information on them... this is the book. The photo reproduction is good, on a par with FMPs Pfalz Aircraft book. The book lead author was Jack Herris with other team members being Christophe Cony, Walter Pieters, Colin Owers, and some others.

One thing I like in particular are the photos taken by Ted Hamady of the Billy Mitchell SPAD S.XVI. They are extensive of many small details, cockpits, turnbuckles, and myriad other details taken during its recent restoration.

Got my copy of the book and I like it. Was not on Flying Machines' website, but was on their parent Paladin's. Can recommend. Jack Herris had 3 copies he sold at the League Seminar in Seattle last weekend.
