Heads Up: October Air Classics

There is an interesting article about the Fokker DVI in the October issue of Air Classics (display until 11/30/05). Featured is a replica built by Antique Aero. There are interesting photos of the DVI, along with vintage shots. The article describes some interesting history about the DVI, along with comparisons between it and the DVII and DR1.

Does this magazine Air Classics include only WWI aircraft, or does it feature WWII aircraft as well?

It might lean a little more towards WWII. But I'd say it does a fair job covering all era's of aviation.

Air Classics

Dear Shipmodeler, It is a good magazine that covers WW I the interwar period and WW II planes and personalities. It is usually worth the money you pay for it which it quite a feat for a print publication these days. Modelers love the art and photos. Sometimes it covers restoration projects too so there is something in for everybody. You ought to check it out. VR, Roadhog "Memento mori."

Speaking of magazines, has anyone been able to pick up "Aviation History" lately? Like "Air Classics", "Aviation History" tends to lean more towards the WW2 side, but with Jon Guttman as its editor one could always be assured of a good WW1 article every now and then. I haven't been able to find a copy at any bookstores around here for months.

Russ,

I subscribe to Aviation History, and so far have been receiving it ok. It's my favorite mag. They always seem to include some very interesting articles on WWI, and some from before. I especially enjoy their articles from the golden age of the 20's & 30's. It is a bi-monthly publication. I have noticed it missing from Barnes & Noble towards the end of a cycle, then the next issue will appear. But I do hope there aren't any problems at AH.

Topgun 56,

I used to buy Air Classics as a kid during the 70's. If I remember, it contained mostly black and white vintage pictures. I rediscovered it maybe five years ago, and honestly don't know why I don't subscribe to it now. I think it's a well done magazine. They show many vintage shots, and have some of the best photographs (lots of air to air) of current flying vintage and replica airplanes I've ever seen.

Thumbs up Air Classics

I was at Barnes & Noble yesterday where I happened to see Air Classics in their military history area. With the Fokker story, I couldn't resist so purchased it. The magazine also contains a nice photo essay on the Shuttleworth Collection. I'd agree with the others here...a most excellent magazine for the price!

Guttman certainly is a good editor-- one just has to look at his formidable bibliography-- and it's probably because he edits the best writers in our field, even barring the occaisional his taking credit for what another had written; please refer to my other thread in this section of the good ol' Forum, the one regarding plaigiarism...

Respectfully submitted,
Captain Lewis
