U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Color Guide, Vol.1

Hi guys, Does anyone have a copy of this book by John M. Elliott? I was going to buy it until I found out it cost $500.00! Specifically, I am trying to find out what color of the Loening M-8 Monoplane was as used by the Navy 1918. This book covers 1911-1939 so I am thinking it might give me the answer. Thanks for your consideration.

I did a bunch of research on the Loening when I finished my M-8-1 earlier this year. You can see the result - and if you follow the link, my logic - of what I thought the color should be. Here's the link:

Matt, Thanks for your response. I have been having fun with this project and it has turned into history lesson. It makes sense to me that the Navy version would be gray. The copys of the photo's I have of the non-Navy aircraft sure look like other colors. Keeping in mind the film used, it looks like one of them could have had a red nose (sheet metal) since the color matches the red ring on the wheels and the stripe on the tail. Have any opnions on the "pinked tape" used in regard to it's color?

No idea, sorry. What I posted at IM is as far as I took it.

Best of luck!
