Hi All,
Received Volume 37, No. 2 (Summer 2006) of 'Cross & Cockade International' the other day, and had to say what an outstanding issue it is! Two fascinating pieces from our own Stephen Lawson about the 3rd AIC at Issoudun, and the 31st Aero Squadron at Field Five. This is the unit with that terrific skull & Crossbones emblem on the black fuselages of its Nieuports; all illustrated with terrific photos and superb COLOR profiles by Ronny Bar. Also a wonderfully illustrated article on colourful training Camels in the UK, again with astounding color work by Bar. The issue also contains a nice piece on British rigid airships R31 and R32, and one on the great story of the improvised British hydroplane (well, sort of a hydroplane) "Mimi" on the Dead Sea. Topping it all off is a superb little story by Canadian historian Stew Taylor about "An Evening Major W. Sholto Douglas MC DFC would Prefer to Forget", which is stunning and fascinating. Stories like this one almost never make it into the more official histories or autobiographies, and we're indebted to Stew (who knew so many, many Canadian airmen and heard all of their stories) for preserving it.
Those of you unfamiliar with "C & C I" can visit their website at

VERY highly recommended for anyone interested in WWI aviation history.
