French Strategic and Tactical Bombardment Forces of World War I

At last! I've finally found an English book that deals with at least some efforts of the Aviation Militaire!

It's titled French Strategic and Tactical Bombardment Forces of World War I. It is a translation of René Martel's classic "L'Aviation Francaise de Bombardement", by Allen and Steven Suddaby.

Only just ordered it am keenly awaiting delivery.

Hello

I have the original french edition and in my opinion it is really a great book.
It is so comprehensive that I understand why it's more clever to reprint/translate it rather than write a new book wich could only be inferior (except for spending years in the archives).

The book is a chronological study of operations (almost day to day), organization and tactics, there are also infos on german operations.
The style is serious and not old fashioned so one does not have the impression that this was written almost 70 years ago.
The french edition has 400+ pages of text (no pictures, a handful of useful maps) literally packed with infos you won't find anywhere else.

The original edition (in average condition for a 1939 paperback ) can be found (if you're patient and read french, of course) at around 25/30 euros (30/40$) so a reprint at 60$ is a good deal in my opinion. If I had not already got the book, I would certainly buy this edition, especially as the publisher says it has been updated.
I hope that they included an index. There's none in the first edition and things like "where did I read the description of the 90 mm bomb" can become annoying experience

I just ordered a copy from the publisher. I guess I'll take a chance on what this new version is like.
Thanks for the report.

Regards,
Ryan

How long did it take for people to get their copies? I'm still waiting.
Has it even been released yet?

As an aside, Hikoki publishing is getting to be kind of notorious (in my mind) for this. They have a book on "Latin American air wars" listed for over a year now which I have still yet to see.

Oh well.

i placed an order for mine about a month ago, and it was delayed until November! I decided if I was gonna wait THAT long I might as well bundle in two other books as well! I think one of them was "Shooting the Front" (which is about British aerial recon work in WWI). don't know much about it, but the subject is so seldom dealt with in books I figured I'd just buy it and hope for the best. especially since I'm going to be waiting so long in the first place!
