Thumbs up New Book

Maybe I missed a thread on this previously, but I just bought British Single-Seater Fighter Squadrons on the Western Front in World War I by Alex Revell. I am a happy camper, to say it is impressive is an understatement. Thank You Alex Revell. Me happy, go read book now.

Thanks Troy, that's on the to buy list.

If it's even half as good as "High in the Empty Blue", I'll be thrilled!

New Book

I got my copy a couple of days after Troy got his and I've just breifly looked through it. I like it!

Junior, it is just like High in the Empty Blue, but it covers all of the single seat squadrons. So, if you liked High in the Empty Blue you'll need to get this one.

Many thanks to Alex Revell.

"Junior", should I, uh, maybe, uh, not mention the upcoming "Schlachtflieger" book? I'm right there with you only I abuse Master Card! I might just try and buy stock in Schiffer, the "Schlachtflieger" book will be my fourth Schiffer publication in three months. I am having a real good time, my thanks to the authors and other fine folks who write and publish these great books.

Hi Alex,

you will be hearing from my lawyer shortly, I dropped my copy and broke two toes on my right foot!

For those that have not seen Alex's book yet it is larger and heavier than HITEB - an achievement previously thought to be impossible.

Get a copy, you will not be dissapointed.

While I agree completely with your enthsiasm for this book, there is one comment that I believe should be made regarding the comparison with HITEB. One of the outstanding features of HITEB is the continuity of the account. One can set HITEB aside for several days, and then pick up the story again at the bookmark without missing a beat. The narrative flows beautifully. This is only possible when dealing with a single squadron. In order to account for all of the single-seater squadrons on the front, it is necessary to jump around from one squadron to the next, depending on which squadron happens to be in the thick of the action during any given period. While this book maintains continuity as well as might reasonably be expected, be advised that it must be read with a bit more concentration than is needed for a really superior effort such as HITEB.

It this book worth having? Absolutely!
