The Map Should Re-appear in a Few Days

I heard back from Scarecrow Press and they overwrote the map when they put the text selection in. It will take a few days to get it back on and I'll re-post when I can confirm that they've done it and can tell you exactly where to find it.

The website again (without the extra semicolon this time) is:

www.scarecrowpress.com

Enter "martel" into the Quick Search.

There were 4 maps of the Western Front for each year 1915-1918, nearly all identical except for colored markings that showed where aerodromes were located. The maps are so large that they could only be scanned at Kinkos on a scanner with a roller instead of a flatbed. I don't mind telling you that it hurt me to have to use a knife to cut the 1918 map out of my pristine 1939 copy so it could be scanned. The other maps are so similar that I won't cut them out just to scan them. (Does anyone else want to contribute their maps for this purpose?) Scarecrow Press, by the way, refused to scan the maps themselves for fear of damaging my only copy of the book.

FINALLY got my copy last Friday. it was pretty much worth the wait. not particularly heavy on statistics or aerodromes like I was hoping. but, y'know, it was still really good. you get to see a more personal side to the French Air Service (by a guy who served in it) that you don't really find anywhere else. I'm still reading through it--but it's quality stuff.

For aerodrome locations, you need to purchase the SHAA book published a couple of years ago on the Escadrilles.

It is in French but primarily tabular, so easy to manage. My wife even like this one, especially the art work!

Hi All,
I downloaded the map from the website and this afternoon I printed it off to
A3 size.
And very good it looks too.
Thanks Steve for getting it put on the web as a download.
Cheers
S S-C.

Direct link to map pdf

All,

The link to download the map is on the description page for the book, about 2/3 of the way down the page. However, you should be able to get to it via this link directly:
