What's a collection worth?

Hi Friends. It's with a heavy heart that I'm posting this message. Some of you have followed my progress online since I opened my restaurant, The Rain Desert, here in eastern Connecticut back in February. Well, my start-up year has been particularly grueling. For nearly ten months we've managed to grow slowly and steadily but I just haven't gotten to the point where I'm making it. Sadly, this region's really starting to show the effects of the slowing economy, out-of-control prices on product, fuel and utilities costs, and, well, EVERYTHING else. Dining and entertainment becomes somewhat of a luxury item, and this is a proving to be a very challenging time for me and other folks trying to survive these coming months.

So, it's with much sadness that I am considering selling my beloved book collection. I need to raise some operating cash (Must make it through that critical first year!) and have begun thinking that I may need to sell off my library; either in part or in full.

This is the link to my collection. It's pretty well up-to-date with correct editions and original cover scans, etc.
The War In The Air Bibliography

At this point I am all ears. I would invite anyone to make me an offer, either on the entire collection or specific books you might be interested in obtaining. At this point, I'm not even used to the idea yet that I may well be parting with my books, but am resigned to consider any offer or offers.

I thank you all, my forum friends for your consideration.

The Volumes

Jan!

You must be most passionate about the restaurant to consider giving up such a library!

To be frank I believe that in the case of most of the volumes the value estimated is low and certain books are certainly worth quite a bit. Though it would be a pity to have such a collection cast to the winds, so to speak, it would seem that only a book dealer would by the volumes en masse.
That said, there are a few books listed that I would be interested in purchasing ...

Still, I hope the situation improves and you are able to keep the library.

Sorry to hear that you find yourself in such difficult straits. If you sell to a bookdealer, you'll get about 1/3 the value of the books. If you could find an interested university, that would probably be your best bet. If you are interested in selling individual volumes, there are a couple of interest to me. Let me know how to get in touch.

Don't do it--if you can possibly avoid it.
I know business isn't quite right for you (restaurant) at present but a few years ago in a moment of frustration, I E-bayed a shed load of books, models, journals etc.

The models I don't miss, but the journals and books...
I still think some days, Oh I'll read that again--and then I realise I won't.

I also realise that the Harley Sportster sitting in the garage isn't a bad exchange, but I still miss all those obscure articles in C&C and OTF, plus the books.
