If A Book Dealer Shows Up in the East River...

Tom, You'd be in trouble.

Is your German good enough to read it? I can't wait for you to start sharing with the rest of us. Also I believe the LvR "book" is a reference to the long article I have seen quoted elsewhere. VR, Scott

GREAT FIND!

Mate,
My German is pretty pretty good when speaking almost native, reading is slow but I can pretty well muddle through along with my writing.

Found a place in GB that has the article of 'Richthofens rival' and am awaiting the copywright release form and how much.

Also have the LvR "article " is on the way, as well Roadhog.

Need to have another lunch while the wx is still good, how have you been feeling lately.

Mates,
I am still looking for the following:

1. Stürme und Luftsiege (Attack and Air Victories) Berlin 191 ---Adolf Ritter von Tutschek (just when I was about to order it, it was gone and for $100+)

2. Vom Jäger zum Flieger: Tagebuchblätter und Briefe, by Karl-Emil Schäfer, published 1918, Druck & Verlag August Scherl, Berlin, 117 pages

Any help would be welcomed - Thanks in advance.

Tom

Book #3, "Unsere Luftstreitkrafte" periodically comes up on ebay......I saw one listed just recently....but it's a VERY expensive book and often is listed with a Reserve Price.

PS
Two copies of this book are listed now on ebay Germany.

Unsere Luftstreitkrafte 1914-1918 by WALTER VON EBERHARDT is truly a magnificent tome that often will sell for upwards of $1000. But let the buyer beware.

Much of the value of the book for researchers is a supplement that was published with the book - A 91 page listing of all fatalities of the German Air Service - with dates of birth, death and location. Many copies of the book omit this supplement, which greatly reduces its value.

My copy was made from the book held by the New York Public Library, and -lo and behold - the supplement was gone. The librarian in charge believed a "researcher" had walked off with it, such is its value. It took me a while to find a copy of the supplement, which I did with the help of some forumites.

Always ask if the book includes the supplement - to some it's worth more than the book.

VBR,

Ira

Mates,
Just received my photocopy of 'Richthofen’s Rival' by Ralph Baker. Very interesting article.

Now to acquire the other two books that I am looking for, as I now know where the third one can be had and at what price.(need to put my penneys together)

1. Stürme und Luftsiege (Attack and Air Victories) Berlin 191 ---Adolf Ritter von Tutschek.

2. Vom Jäger zum Flieger: Tagebuchblätter und Briefe, by Karl-Emil Schäfer, published 1918, Druck & Verlag August Scherl, Berlin, 117 pages.

Still searching for where I can find #1 and #2.
