re your advert: WW1Aero issues 197, 198, 199, 200 for $35.00
Let me see.
You've had my money for a year, I haven't received the magazines and you offer a whacking big discount to others?
Point 2: I notice that, if I live outside of the US I get whacked twice, the subscription costs $5.00 more and the mailing cost. The mailing cost I understand (even though the cost is actually 1/2 of your fee) but what reason do you have to charge more for the actual magazine? Special levy on those who have subscribed for more than 5 years and send extra $?
Not happy about this one.
Regards,
John

Hello John and all,
I’m afraid I’ll have to take the blame for pushing the idea of the special offer, and I apologize to any and all who may be upset by it. The fact is, we had an overrun of issues 197 and 198, and would like to decrease our inventory of them. We also need to increase our member numbers to make publication of future issues of the journals more practical, so it seemed that offering this special deal might encourage those who were reluctant or hesitant to join in the past to give us a try. Hopefully if they are pleased with the material they will renew with us at the regular rate after delivery of #200.
As for the different rate for foreign memberships plus postage, I’m not sure exactly how that came about but I agree that the rate should be the same for all. I believe that next time we adjust the membership rates, domestic and foreign memberships will be the same, just the added postage for overseas memberships will be different. I should mention that our regular membership rate barely covers the cost of printing, and postage outside the U.S. has gone up considerably over the past year.
Again, my apologies go out to you and I hope this helps to explain why we have made this offer available.
Best regards,
Tom Polapink

Hello, John,
I've sent you a PM about your post. I understand the reason you're not happy about the special offer - believe me when I say we're doing our best.
I am concerned to hear that you say you haven't received an issue in a year, if that is what you meant to say. You should have received #197 and #198 and #199 ought to be to you during the coming week.
Please let me know what the last issue was that you received. You can PM me or send an e-mail to cfgray@mac.com
Best wishes,
Carroll Gray
Editor, WW1 AERO

Carroll,
Received your PM but since the rest of this dialogue is on the forum, I thought it best to complete it here.
I checked previous subscription info in my files and found the following.
The $5.00 upcharge was not for printing, but to cover the increased cost of surface mail, at least to Canada. The $30.00 was for airmail outside of continental USA including Canada. Perhaps this is where the confusion is.
In the past I have used the surface mail rate. Will this, or a version of it, still be applicable?
Regards,
John

How does the $35 deal work? I'd like to take advantage, but the Website link doesn't give that option.
How about a WWIAero/Skyways subscription package deal?
I'm unable to sign into the AeroForum. I get a "systems administrator has banned this email address" notice. WTF? Emails also bounce back .... Carroll, your inbox is too full!

Hi
Hi, Burl,
Thanks for asking about the Special Offer. I'll figure the postage for you and send the amount to you. You can then use the PayPal link on our web site to make the payment. Since postage will vary it isn't possible to give a fixed amount for everyone.
WW1 AEROs #197, 198 and 199 will be mailed together and #200 will be sent as soon as it is printed. #200 is nearing completion.
I tried to set up a postage calculator on our PayPal page, but couldn't get it to work reliably.
Alternately, people can call our office (845) 835-8121, state they want the special offer, leave their name, number, address and e-mail. We will then figure out the postage and either e-mail or call with that amount which can then be paid on our web site using the WW1 AERO subscription PayPal link.
As for AeroForum, we are having a major upgrade within a week or so and this should finally fix the damage done by hackers some while back. That attack left us unable to accept new registrations, among other things.
As for my old e-mail address (cfg@carrollgray.com) that was stolen by spammers and so is unusable. Please use my current e-mail cfgray@mac.com
I will try to re-register you on AeroForum if you send me your account particulars.
Best,
cfgray

SPECIAL OFFER Payments
Hi, All,
Here are the options for paying for the Special Offer (redundant to my post to Burl, but I thought I'd include all the info in this one post):
Anyone interested in the Special Offer should send their address to me at cfgray@mac.com and we'll figure the postage and let them know. Payment can then be made using the PayPal link on our web site, even if you don't have a PayPal account.
Alternatively, people can send a check or money order (with a note that this is for the Special Offer) to:
World War I Aeroplanes, Inc.
PO Box 730,
Red Hook, NY 12571
WW1 AEROs #197, 198 and 199 will be mailed together and #200 will be sent as soon as it is printed. #200 is almost finished.
People can also call our office (845) 835-8121, state they want the special offer, leave their name, number, address and e-mail. We will then figure out the postage and either e-mail or call with that amount which can then be paid on our web site using the WW1 AERO subscription PayPal link or a check or money order can be sent to the address above.
Best,
cfgray

Let me add my congratulations on a superb issue as well. Cover looks great. Wonderful article by our own Martha Esch about 5 days with Cole Palen. My favorite part, though, are the color spreads featuring Mike O'Neal's artwork! Great job all around.

Glad you like it
Russ,
Very glad you like #199, it took a lot of effort by a number of people. I look forward to having your fine artwork in #201.
Best,
cfgray
