I FLEW WITH THE LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE by Edwin C. Parsons. E. C. Deale & Company, Inc., Indianapolis. 1963 reprint of the 1937 original. Hardcover. Illustrated with 80 photos.
SIZE: 335 pages. 6" x 8.25"
CONDITION: Excellent. No discernible flaws.

Rainbase; Just a word of caution about this edition of the 1963 E.C. Seales copy of Parsons book. The whole edition is printed in medium brown ink typeface, which makes it difficult to read in most lights and the photos are also in the same brown ink which looses a great deal of their charm and distinction. Hence the no-doubt economic price it's found at?? Overall a bad job of design?
On a PRO note - anyone who finds a copy of the title - NOTES OF A LOST PILOT, by Jean Beraud Villars, Archon Books, 1975, ISBN-0-208-01437-3, will also get a delightful collection in it of the BxW drawings of Charles Faust. These are excellent and accurate for the period. HL; FM

You're absolutely right, Frederick. I'd forgotten about that odd brown print. My copy has that too, of course. Now, my eyes are pretty bad and I don't remember having a particularly tough time reading this book. I think the font is at least reasonably large.
(I admit, the size and layout of font has become a bit of an issue for me whenever it comes time to pick out my next read)

I won't guess what this will sell for, but it's a fabulous starting bid at $24.99
RareWWI Aviation Bks in English Bibliography Noffsinger
Offering a Rare James Philip Noffsinger volume titled World War I Aviation Books in English: An Annotated Bibliography direct from a recent estate auction. Published in 1987 by The Scarecrow Press; 305 pages including 1,663 entries listed alphabetically by author. There is also a subject index. Amazing compilation of verified and documented information for the historian, World War I and/or enthusiast of the development of air weapons. No markings, bends or tears; gray cloth over hardboard cover with red embossed spine and front.
Please contact me with any questions before bidding. We charge actual shipping and insurance only and pride ourselves on our careful packing. High bidder will pay shipping and optional insurance. We’ll be happy to combine shipping for multiple auction wins so check out our other auctions. Contact by winning bidder expected within 3 days and payment within 10 days after close of auction. Paypal, money order or check (held seven business days for check to clear) accepted as payment. Thanks for looking!
I would be bidding on this instead of posting it here (I don't own a copy) if not for the fact that I have placed a moratorium on my book-buying for the time being. I made the decision last week to scuttle my beloved restaurant/nightclub. These 100 hour work weeks have caught up with me and the economic downfall seems to be steepening. I have a chance to get out intact and with a decent job offer.... whew

For the Manfred Von Richthofen collectors, I present the current auctions:
This is offered starting at $12.50. I have a couple in this series and just love them. I'll take a guess that this one is a lot of fun. Plus, anything with Norman Frank's name on it is guaranteed to be top notch.
In The Footsteps Of The Red Baron von Richthofen Nice!
IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE RED BARON by Mike O'connor and Norman Franks. Battleground Europe Series published by Pen & Sword. Standard series format with glossy color covers. Contains 176 pages. Profusely illustrated with period and modern photos, maps and diagrams. Written by a renowned tandem of aviation historians who are authorities in the field. The book covers the various airfield occupied by the elite Flying Circus on the Western Front. The superb text is accompanied by many carefully selected photographs. An extraordinary book in New condition.
Here's a copy of Titler offered for $7.99. I read this right after I read Carrisella and for years these two books shaped many of out opinions on April 21, 1918. This book reads very well.
Red Baron Died The Day by Dale M. Titler (1970)
Bonanza Books - 1970 - Hardcover, Dustjacket Minor Wear, Very Good Condition, 320 Pages, Photos, Maps- This is the most detailed and colorful Biography of the many that have been written about Manfred von Richthofen--the famed "Red Baron," so named for the all red triplane he flew and was flying the day he was shot out of the sky. As a documentary it is a story that evokes the romantic legend of the knight of the air, white silk scarf and all. This is a book for adventurers, a must for buffs. Final proof that ground fire brought Bon Richthofen down
The great Harlyford book.. VERY reasonable at $9.99
Von Richthofen and the Flying Circus RARE 1958 Edition
Presumed first edition, published in 1958 by Harleyford Publications, Limited, Letchworth, Herts; England, distributed in the USA and Canada by the Robert R. Longo Co, Inc. Hard cover, bright orange boards, gilt stamping to spine, 208 pages.
Compiled by H. J. Nowarra of Berlin’s Luftfarhart-Archiv, and USAF Major Kimbrough S. Brown, illustrated by William F. Hepworth, and edited by Bruce Robertson. Much of the material for this book, which took two years to prepare, was gathered from interviews, German and British archives, and private collections, including those of the Von Richthofen family.
This book features 30 chapters, eight appendices, hundreds of photographs, and dozens of marvelous illustrations.
Listed earlier for $9.00. I Love this book.
Under the Guns of the Red Baron VON RICHTHOFEN WWI
I'm listing this, although I consider the $39.99 price absurd. This is my favorite of Killduff's MVR books. There's actually a good amount of new info and some insights here that aren't just a rehashing. It reads pretty well too. I recommend this volume (but not the high price: I got my copy for $10)
Illustrated Red Baron by Peter Kilduff (1999)
These next two are pretty much void of any truthful facts, but for the collector that might not be an issue.
First is the Movie tie-in... $0.99
VINTAGE BOOK -"VON RICHTHOFEN AND BROWN" BY JOE LAVINIA
And the Shurmacher's silly book. $5.95 (you can get this much cheaper)
RICHTHOFEN THE RED BARON WWI fighter pilot air warfare
Manfred's book itself. I believe this a new translation, but am not sure. $13.32
NEW The Red Fighter Pilot: The Autobiography of the ...
This is a pretty good book too. $13.30
NEW The Red Baron's Last Flight: An In-Depth Investi...
The mysterious events of April 21, 1918, the day the legendary Red Baron met his end, have kept the world captivated for decades.
There have been many theories, articles and books concerning exactly what took place but all previous accounts have been overshadowed by this groundbreaking book. Here is the definitive answer to one of history' s most compelling mysteries.
Taking you straight to the site of Richthofen' s final crash, leading aviation historian Norman Franks and pilot Alan Bennett dissect the evidence and expose what only eyewitnesses could see, complimented by a host of forensic and historical facts that illustrate in detail what actually occurred, when and how.
A nice copy of Burrows for $9.99
RICHTHOFEN A True History of the Red Baron BOOK
And finally, Mama Richthofen's account for $25.46
Mother of Eagles
Baroness Kunigunde von Richthofen originally published Mein Kriegstagebuch (My War Diary) in 1937, at a time when tales of heroes of the First World War inspired the youth of a country being prepared for a second war.
Hope anyone finds this useful.

Just a note - this is the first edition of Noffsinger's book. The second, revised edition was published in 1997 under the title "World War I Aviation - A Bibliography of Books in English, French, German, and Italian with a Price List Supplement."
The first edition contains a list of books numbering 1663 (I took that from the auction listing as my edition is at home) and while it is still worthwhile, the revised edition is more complete, containing 3092 entries for English language books, 344 for French language books, 624 for German language books, and 157 for Italian language books. In addition, the price list reflects some attempt to define scarcity and recent (1997) prices for 909 books.

This is a nice book, as Strange was part of the air war for pretty much the duration of the war. I liked it enough that I sought out the 1933 original John Hamilton. Worth a read.

This is a really cool book; I got a soft cover version years ago and have always enjoyed it. Lots of pictures! The book was more recently reissued in a slightly expanded format, but this edition is very nice. $4.00
ACES HIGH Military War World War I Combat Air Squadron
ACES HIGH, The War in the Air over the Western Front 1914-18, by Alan Clark is a book about the combat squadrons on the Western Front during the First World War. The frailty of the aeroplanes, the incendiary bullets of the enemy, the banning of parachutes as 'likely to lower morale' made death a three to one certainty. The aces performed acts of incredible bravery and skill but almost all lost at the finish their lives or their sanity.
Clark also writes of the planes they flew, the evolution of those machines from 'stringbags' and 'flying coffins' to the sophisticated tactical instruments of 1918. He tells of the short-sightedness of the high commands who failed to recognise the significance of the aerial contribution to the war and sent men to their deaths in inadequate and badly-designed planes.
Appendices are:
1~Comparative weights and performance of leading combat aircraft of the First World War.
2~Comparative chart showing when leading combat aircraft were in operation during the First World War.
Book has 120 black and white illustrations.
This is a library discard with cardpocket, usual library stamps and labels inside and out, tape on hardcover, etc. Dustjacket has edge rubbing and has been taped inside. Hardcover has fraying edges. Contents are tightly bound but bottom edges of pages have moisture stain. Many pages have light smudges or light discoloration on edges. This is still a good readable edition.

I've never seen this one before. At 709 pages, it's certainly a BIG book (probably a very slowwwww read too; our British friends can sure take their time with their memoirs, ha ha). $14.99
The Central Blue Sir John Slessor RAF WWI WWII Aviation
The Central Blue: Recollections and Reflections, by Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Slessor, published in the UK by Collins in 1956. 1st printing. 709 pp., with 17 pp. of photographs and 2 tables. Autobiography of man who served in Royal Air Force from World War I through World War II. Hardback book and dust jacket in very good condition; book has a few very small white spots along top edge; previous owner's name in ink inside front cover; binding visible at frontis, otherwise contents clean and tight. Dust jacket has one small tear, rubbing along front edge of spine; color on spine slightly faded. See my other military and aviation listings!
