Pusher Aces of World War 1

Hello,

Greg informed us about a new book from Osprey: Italian Aces of World War 1, but I saw via the link that Jon Guttman will release Pusher Aces of World War 1.

Alas, it will take a while too before it is available: June 2009.

Jon mentioned that project earlier this year. As you'd expect it's heavy on FE2 chaps but also DH-2s, FE-8s etc. A terrific concept!

Hi,

Barrett is right. Besides DH2's, FE2's and FE8's, the book will also feature Belgium's first ace Fernand Jacquet, who scored several of his victories flying various Farman pushers. Most of these were decorated with Jacquet's fearsome skull insignia. Jacquet was quite an interesting fellow; besides being a fighter pilot he was an observation pilot who flew many 'special missions'. He wore spectacles and was "not sure of himself while flying alone', which is why he usually flew with an observer. He would fly out to sea, gain height and then fly back into Allied territory from behind German lines, hoping to surprise enemy a/c.

The book will also include Charles Nungesser's early Voisin two-seater, which was emblazoned with a black skull and crossbones on the nacelle - an early version of his famed insignia.

This is definitely on the 'Buy" list.

Will make an excellent companion to Greg's superb Early German Aces.
