My book

Hi all, I thought you may like to know that i'm hoping to write a book on the Handley Page Bombers in WW1. At the moment i'm compiling information, as well as buying books I spent a day last week in the Liddle Collection in Leeds, which has diaries, flight logs, photographs, interviews etc from veterans of both world wars, so already have a good starting point, and it was the main reason for my trip to RAFM Stafford.

Next stage is to go down to the IWM (i've already found what things they have there to look for), then the RAFM and follow up any other leads etc. I'm not hoping to copy what Chaz Bowyer has already done, with a complete history of the HP's, but concentrate on WW1 and include a lot of personal accounts, leaving the veterans to fill in the blanks and tell their stories (and cross referencing to make sure they fit up with what is written in official histories and investigate any discrepancies etc)

I'll be interested to see this one if it is released here in the states. A lot has been written about First World War pursuit aviation at the expense of reconnaissance and bombardment. Letting the men who actually flew the missions tell the story is a nice touch as well. Their stories were never told as often as they should have been.

I’ve also heard that the combat debut of the HP V1500 occurred during the Third Afghan War and that it was instrumental in bringing that war to a conclusion. Do you have the data needed to include post war use in your book or will you have to stick to the Western Front?

Sincerely,

Terry

Hi Leicestertiger,

a very interesting topic, I'm trying to do the same for the Caproni family bombers.
In my website www.avioebooks.com I'm trying to create a place for this kind of initiatives. Once ready, if you feel that my website could give you some help in advertising the book, please feel free to contact me.

best regards

Paolo Miana
