it's good. it's not just the pictures--but the captions are good. more than that he starts the book with a really clear, easy to follow summary of what happened during the war. he doesn't spend all of his time on German aces--but gives a very balanced and thorough presentation of the entire German Air Service.

that's one of my little pet peeves about WWI aviation-- that hot-shot fighter pilots and aces pretty much get all of the attention.

Yes, an excellent book, and example to every who writes on our pet subject. Only problem is that it was pirated in the States and Alex never got a penny from the sales there.

Alex; Mr. Imrie got my royalties. Back in the 60's-70's I was buying all my WWI titles from the British bookdealers - at great prices compared to today. FM

Frederic,
I wasn't meaning or implying the copies of the book published by Ian Allan in Britain, but I understood at the time from Alex - and it's a long time ago now - that it had been pirated by an American publisher without the knowledge of himself or Allan.
