Post Looking for title of Book

Several years ago I read a book by I think was a WW1 British Aviator. It had very interesting insights as to how he trained himself for good shooting by recalling his experiences while learning to hunt flying game, ie. leading the preyfor a shot instead of firing dead on. It also had very interesting notes on how to use a 3 or 4 plane unit as an attack force. it also had a very vivid account as to what it was really like to be part of the units based in France. Not at all like the romantic tales of the movies or books written by others. Up at dawn in all weather, on the line for flight at a moments notice, coming back from operations-refuling and fyling once again several times a day.

The gist of this is to find once again that book. Can anyone help in this endeavor? Sure would like to pass the title and recommendation to read onto some of the members of My Radio Control Club since several have interests in WW1 Scale Models and an interest in the history of WW1 Pilots.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide. - Darryl Zempel-darrzemp@embargmail.com if you would like to reply privately.

The McCudden book is Flying Fury. Not sure if it's the one you mean as there are a couple that might qualify.

Well, if it is not, then it will be no great loss, as Flying Fury is an interesting read in any case. The language is a bit twee in places, and probably not the kind of thing that was really said when lead was flying around - lots of 'by jove!' and that kind of thing - and it was quite heavily censored as most wartime writings were, but it is nonetheless a thing worth having. Be prepared to be shocked how quickly McCudden is made a flying instructor too!

Post Looking for Title of Book

Have Read "Flying Fury". The only copy in Our Hennepin County Library system here in the Soon to Be Frozen Minnesota of the USA. It was a Very Special read. Would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn about the WWI airwar form a pilots perspective. Lots of Great Young men that served their countries. Thanks for the clue on this Book although it's not the one I was looking for. I'll keep searching. Another 2 could possibly be "Fighting Airman"-The way fo the Eagle by Charles J. Biddle and " Wind in the Wires by Duncan Grinnell-Milne. My search for htese is on.

Darryl,

Could it be AG Lee's No Parachute? I can take a look at your other suggestions to see if they fit your memory. My library is right out in Plymouth .

No Parachute by A. S. G. Lee sounds like it might be your book. If not (as was stated above), then you've read another great book.

Have downloaded "winged Warfare" and read it. Was also good, but not the 1 I remember. Thanks for the suggestion on "No Parachute". Will also search for that one. Darryl
