Who's Who of Winged Victory?

I'm reading Winged Victory and I understand that it is a loose biography of Yeates in No 46 Squadron. My question is which characters relate to which re-life people from No 46? Are there any good books on No 46?

Regards,
Kost

Thumbs up

Kost,
you want this book, it's a superb companion to 'Winged Victory'. It not only identifies everybody, but has some very nice photos too. There are also a couple of chapters from 'Winged Victory' that never made it into the original book.

Winged Victor: A Biography of Victor M. Yeates: Amazon.co.uk: Gordon Fred Atkin: Books

There's a FABULOUS book about RFC 46.... No Parachute by Arthur G. Lee. This is, in fact, my favorite work from the war. It's the author's very detailed and honest letters home to his young wife. I believe that Lee left RFC about a month or so after Yeates arrived. Read those two back to back and and you get a remarkable picture of the squadron.

I don't usually plug my ebay store here, but I do have a very nice copy of Winged Victory listed right now. I do not currently have a copy of No Parachute, but do grab every copy I can afford to sell here. It is my life's work to make sure everybody reads Lee's book, he he.

My Store: eBay Store - GREAT WAR BOOKS: WAR IN THE AIR, GENERAL HISTORIES, AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT

No Parachute fan club

No Parachute gets my vote as well. I cherish my nasty little paperback version of this book.

In his introduction to No Parachute, A.G. Lee says that he wrote a lot more than made it into his book. When editing he basically stuck to the material that involved himself, but apparently wrote a lot about the adventures of other pilots in RFC 46. What I wouldn't give to read more of Lee's letter! Does anybody in here know what became of his archive? It seems to me that an expanded volume of his amazing writing would be in order. Who do we start petitioning to make this happen?
