32 sqdn history

Hello all,

I wonder if any one could advise if there is a history of 32Sqdn published?

Something along the lines of H I T E B perhaps?

Any details, Author/Publisher/date etc, would be most welcome.

Also how you would rate it for accuracy and value for money.

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Certainly not in the same league as HITEB, but not meant to be either, 'Wings Over The Somme' by Gwilym Lewis DFC charts (first half of book) his time in 32 squadron on DH2's.

Fascinating and inciteful reading.

Cheers,
Dave.

Bristol scout - Dave

Many thanks for the promt reply - i already have this book, and a very good read it is too!.

may be Osprey will 'do' 32 Sqdn one day - if they do i hope it has more WW1 details that their 43 Sqdn Aviation Elite book, which concentrated on its WW2 achievements.

Thanks again, and best regards

paul

Whilst not in the same league as HITEB, a brief but none the less worthwile 32 Sqn history can be found in the old C&C US. I often consult my copy.

Cheers Russ

The 32 Sqn history is in C&C US Vol 22 #1 1981. The issue also contains a history of Esc 49 as well as a nice article on the colours & markings of Jasta 40 by Forumite Gregvan.

If you are unable to track it down, drop me a line in Private Mail.

Cheers Russ

.

Paul, also "War in an Open Cockpit. The Wartime Letters of Captain Alvin Andrew Callender, RAF". It has some very good personal reflections from a pilot who served with the group in the last six months of the War. It was published back in 1978 and may be a bit hard to locate, but you should be able to find a copy in the $30 to $40 range if you look around a bit.

Cheers!

Lou

Russ,

Many thanks for the c&c issue details. I am a member of c&c uk - but i have to be honest, i have no idea how to go about getting a back issue for the US magazine.

I will have to put a 'wanted' ad in the c&c uk forum, and see what comes of that.

As soon as i can figure out how to send you Private Mail i will do so.

Many thanks for the book details - this was a new one on me, i will add it now to my wants list.

There is a big military book fair at Duxford uk later in the year, and i will be passing the details of this book on to my main contact in 2nd hand books - you never know, he just might come up trumps - fingers crossed!

Again both, many thanks

best regards

I don't have a copy of this one but there are lots and lots of C&Cs for sale on ebay. You might have some luck there. Cheers!
