Sticker Shock

As I was doing some book searching on Amazon, Peter Kilduff's "Red Baron: Life & Death of an Ace" came up. Nothing unusual about that until I saw the price! Paperback $2999.99. Are they kidding? If not, I hope that Peter is getting a share of that. For whatever reason, prices on some books really escalate on Amazon. Link to book below:

I see that the Rudolph Berthold book isn't out until December...hopefully in time for gifting.

Outrageous price for "Red Baron: Life & Death of an Ace"

I think that price is a typo. After the publisher opted to not offer a U.S. edition, I purchased a small supply of paperback copies for friends, et al. The remainder have been going for $19.95 (in the U.S.).

In any case, no, I do not share in any sales via amazon.com or other outlets. FYI, WW I aviation history is a "niche market" and any writer/resarcher looking to make bundles of money should write about vampires or whatever the current "hot" topic is.

As for me, I am now retired and do what I want to do, vs. what someone else (the "boss" in various forms) wants me to do. I like it this way and hope I can keep at it for a l-o-n-g time.

Kilduff's next project

P.S.

Further to the note above (and since people have asked what I'm doing now that my Rudolf Berthold biography is done), I am working on the Summer 2013 issue of Over the Front.

Big surprise: there will be nice German "goodies" in it. Good photos, color artwork, etc. I hope that every person who reads this is a current subscriber to Over the Front and if not (heaven forbid!!!), that they will log on to World War I Aviation Magazine - Over the Front and complete the subscription form and mail a check to Dan Polglaze (progenitor of the delightful Forum thread on WW I aviation artwork, aided and abetted by Greg VanWyngarden, et al.).

Come on, people, we're all in this together. Share the buren -- and the joy!

Interesting read explaining how (some of) these crazy prices are calculated...
