Naval Airpower Books

Two new books on the neglected Naval side of WWI in the air.

1. "Naval Aces of WWI - Pt.2" by Jon Gutman. Usual Osprey style with the German, A-Hungarians, russians, Greek and USA finish Jon's two part compilation.

2. "Stalking the U-Boat - US Naval Aviation In Europe During World War I" by GL Rossano, Univ Press of Florida, 2010. I never saw this one reviewed & found it by chance when looking for other things on the web. Have only read the first chapters but he has a good style and gives life to the men who pushed the USN's naval aviation from virtually nothing to a substantial force by the Armistice.

Great to see my interests covered for a change.

Colin,
Does this volume bring forward any more information about Porte? Particularly interested in Porte's interaction with Curtis and the court case that came from this.
Regards
John

Porte

Nothing new on John Porte in these books.

I have copied the files in the PRO on the awards to inventors covering the Porte, Curtiss, Norman Thompson claims & counter claims and have incorporated this into a feature article on the development of the Felixstowe flying boats in next years OTF.

With a bit of luck I might find something in the Curtiss-Wwright papers in the Smithsonian.

Cheers
