VonHelton, your research is at its usual standard
Did you know that von Richthofen's Dr.I had a black nose?

And that he also flew a long nose example?

Food for thought

That's supposed to be chrome, not black, and yes, there are many that believe the nose of one of his planes was unpainted metal.

1. There was indeed a long-nosed, 7 winged Fokker.
2. MvR did enjoy test-flying aircraft.
.......Whether he flew the "stretch" Fokker or not is debateable.

Hello,
Looking for info concerning the camo/personal markings for Otto Bernert and Paul von Osterroht during April, 1917.
Same for Sebastian Festner--I've read his plane described as "red" but am looking for a little more detail than that. I have a profile illustation that depicts his D.III's fuselage as red from rear-cockpit to empennage, with the cross well forward (OAW) on a green stripe, but have no idea as to that illustration's authenticity and on what info source it is based.
Any help appreciated!

Lozenge colours
Dan_San,
I've just discovered this whole forum, so I'm playing a lot of catch-up. I'm working on several WWI RC models and I'm trying to pin down the ever-elusive lozenge colours. A few posts back you indicated that you have a set of colours definitions for the five and four colour lozenges. Are these available somewhere, and are they in Munsell and/or CYMK values? Methuen seems to be a mystery unless you spend several hundred dollars for a handbook. I've looked for a converter but all I find is Munsell to RGB and CMYK, and I get from FS to CMYK but can't find a Methuen converter.
As a follow-up question, there is an article in Flying Scale Models Vol 5 #26, Nov/Dec 2001 which shows lozenge colors where the top is relatively close to the discussion in earlier posts but the underside colours are very much darker.
I haven't seen any discussion on this. Have you looked at/commented on this article?
Here's two jpg's of where I am at the moment

Alb.D.III(OAW) in April 1917??
JFM:
There were no OAW built Alb.D.III at the front in April 1917. The first OAW order was placed in April 1917 for 200 Alb.D.III machines, s/n D.1650 /17 to D.1849/17. The first machines would have arrived at the Armee Flugpark in late early June 1917, and would have reached the front about two weeks later in late June 1917. The delay is attributed to off loading from the flat bed freight cars, reassembling the machines and test flying before delivery to the assigned Jasta.
So what ever your information source is illustrating a OAW built Alb.D.III in April 1917 is incorrect.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Printed fabric colors.
fuelsguy:
It is unfortuate, but the colors of the 5 color upper and lower patterns are incorrect. I have printed sheets of the four color and five color upper and lower patterns available at $10.00 per page, each set of two pages would $20.00 plus $1.50 for postage. Included is a page size copy of the 4 or 5 color pattern. These are not painted color chips, these are printed copies. For comparison, color chips @ $8.00 chip, the 4 color set is $64 and the 5 color set would be $80. It is a considerable saving to you. My colors have been matched fabric samples in my collection. Just wondering what became of this:
[From #75, posted 30 August, 2005]
Jan:
I have finished the 4 and 5 color data sheets in the new format. Tomorrow, I'll start on the Naval 3 color hex. That will rattle a few cages. It should be in the mail no later than Friday. I would appreciate Jan, if you will post all the data sheets on the this thread.
