Go.G.V 901/16

LFM:
I have looked through my data and cannot find any reference to Go.G.V901/16. Tell me where you found it and I'll check it out.

It appears that with the order G.V 900 - 979/16 that all were painted in a four color irregular night camouflage using four colors:
1. Dark violet 17F3/4 which is virtually black.
2. Dark blue, 20F3 to 21F4 also virtually black.
3. Dark green, 27F3 to 30F4 " " "
4 Black.
Each of the colors in the scale, i.e. 17F3/4 are for all intents and purposes are so close to be the same. That also applies to dark blue and dark green.
I think the differences were were the individual's observations when coding the color.
All the G.V machines in that order, were painted with the same four colors.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

DSA,

"901/16?" is from Gotha!, page 46, caption 65. Obviously, the use of "?" renders the ID uncertain.

Until I can find a copy of the MHofC I'm the mercy of you guys who do, and I really appreciate the time spent fielding requests.

Gotha Colors????

JFM:
I looked through all the camouflaged G.V machines and the grey values do not match the almost black color of the fabric swatches in the IWM. I am wondering if the colors were lighter. This is were my black and white copy of the "Methuen Handbook of Colour" will come in handy!
I'll be back in a bit.

Go.G.V colors?????

Gentlemen:
I have compared the grey value for charts, 17, 21 and 28. What I ascertained the was the dark polygon was dull violet 17D3, the intermediate polygon was dull green 28D4 and the light polygon was dull blue 21D3 and the darkest polygon was black. The illustration on the back cover of of "GOTHA!" may not be correct. Further study is required.
I would like you all to turn to page 45 of "GOTHA!, top photo of Go.G.Va733/17. The wings and tails are covered with the five color LIGHT DAY PATTERN! The bottom photo of Go.G.Vb 917/18, the wings and (tails not visible, it is assumed) are also covered with five color day light pattern on the visible upper surfaces. It is presumed the under side of the wings and tails are also covered with the same fabric. The fuselage is painted in matching colors of the fabric.
"Erika"! photo 55, page 41. She is covered with five color intermediate day five color upper lozenge fabric. The fin is the clue. Ilustration K on page 44 is not correct. The fuselage colors match the the fabric colors. Oh well!
This will take some new thinking, I wonder if these Gothas were designated Day Bombers???
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Dan:

The Aero Conservancy has a piece of painted fabric from Gotha GV 979/16 and while much of the paint has disappeared, you can see how close the black and dark green paint really are. The entire write-up about the downing of 979 is at http://www.aeroconservancy.com/gothafabric.htm.

The fabric itself is below:

Note the dark green on the far left edge about mid way. I forget the exact number of threads, but it was in the typical range for German aircraft fabric.

I have potos & documents that tend to suggest that if the war had drug on any further, Germany was going to launch a massive bombing campaign.

Twin tail Gothas & Freds were stored in large numbers in abandoned Zeppelin hangers in preperation for this attack.

These aircraft were in day time lozenge, not night lozenge.

Potos???

VonHelton;
I am curious, what are "potos"? Is it some kind of disease of the skin? Is it as bad as "aids"? Are the documents you refer to is about your Potos?
Also, what are Freds? Or maybe it is, who are Freds? Or is it, what is Fred's?
Caring,
Dan-San
