Photos of insignia

I'd like to make a few silkscreened prints of some squadron insignia. I want to be fairly accurate in the reproduction so I thought I could look for some photos of the actual insignia instead of depending on someone elses reinterpretation. Most of the photos I found online are too small resolution and my local library doesn't have much to offer.

I'm interested in US and French squadron and ace insignia. Especially US 9th, 11th, 22nd, 25th, 27th (based on Frank Luke's insigina), 90th, 91st, 94th, 95th, 96th, 186th. Escadrille 3 (stork) and 48 (rooster)...or anything else that looks interesting.

Are there any recommended books that has good photos of insignia, or does anyone have some high res images? Any artwork that I make will be free for download and released under a Creative Commons license.

Here are a couple from the 94th and a scrap of canvas for color, although the color has faded a bit.

While not what you asked for, here is another photo that, considering your avatar, you might be interested in. I regret that I don't know who the pilot is. Perhaps you do.

Thank you for the information. I did a search and you are correct. I have quite a few old photos and am trying to identify all of the who's where's and what's. You solved this one for me.

Back when I started building aircraft for Red Baron 3D, there were all kinds of neat websites that had info like this.

.....Sadly, most of these websites have come down. Why, I have no idea.

Consider also ...

... the Albatros factory logo, particularly if you can print with silver ink.

And both types of Lafayette Escadrille insignia (although you couldn't wear them to an American sporting event.)

And let us know when these are available!

Indeed it is. The photo was circulated by the Germans as a propaganda tool, but backfired since it demonstrated American royalty on the front lines while German royalty was in relatively safe command positions.
