This one just won't let go, will it?

Something's still bugging me about all this!

Why would Richthofen use an obsolete type (Halberstadt D.II or D.III) in February/march 1917, when the D.V was available and actually in Jasta 11's inventory?

Ed Ferko's Fighter aeroplane Allocations list on page 78 of his book "Richthofen", clearly states that most of the Halberstadts being used by Jasta 11 at the time were D.V's.

Apart from that, the official record was not specific, stating only that he was flying a Halberstadt 'D' type.

So, it would seem more feasible (to me anyway), that Richthofen achieved his 19th victory on 1st Feb 1917, in a Halberstadt D.V, and not a DII (or D.III) at all!

Whad'ya think fella's?

All the best.

Bucky.

My Gallery
Jasta 11 Halberstadts.

Southside Bucky:
It is logical that the Halb.D.V would have replaced the D.II and D.III by February 1917. The photograph of Ltn.Kurt Wolff is standind in front of a Halb.D.V. It was most probale that MvR was using a D.V.
Blue skies,
