Richthofen's Halberstadt D-11 markings
In the month of March, 1917, Manfred von Richthofen scored five victories while flying the Halberstadt D-11. Would anyone happen to know what number this aircraft was? Or, can you recommend any reading/research material that might reference this short bit of the Barons history?
Thank You TeeKay.

MvR's Halb. D.II was believed to have had the early three colour German camouflage. Not D-11 is D.II.

Hi TeeKay.
MvR's Halberstadt(s) are undocumented and no photo's exist, so no one is gonna be able to help you there I'm afraid.
BTW, I know you meant two, and not eleven!... Some people eh?
Regards.
Bucky.

I'm really interested in information on this one too... I may replicate a Halberstadt after I finish the Siemens-Schuckert! And he had a "kill" on my birthday in that aircraft!

Well, it's a picture of MVR standing next to a Halberstadt DII that's for sure...Is it his? Maybe, maybe not.
Well done though Stephen, I'll give you that one!
All the best.
Bucky.

Greetings Count Holck; It is Ltn. Alfred Gerstenberg. He served with MvR in Russia in the Cavalry (note the tunic) and later in Jasta 11. We have one of Gerstenberg's Uhlankas (Lancer tunics) in our collection. Herr Gerstenberg was dying of throat Cancer in the 1970's (?) and the founder of our organization dr. J.J. Parks was one of the attending physicians in Heidelberg.

"Richthofen" by A.E.Ferko, 1995 p.14 shows two images. Ferko says that MvR flew it. So I would say Yes. But feel free to draw your own conclusion.
