Roland C.II strange camouflage?
Hi!
There is that new album on E-Bay:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=6255843707
...which includes several excellent Roland C.II photos. Some of these photos show plane in light finish, which appeares to be the well known "sky" camouflage
- but there is visible, on several photos, that the top of the plane is slightly darker than the bottom, and the line separating the two shades is straight, in the middle of the fuselage, little below the windows.
Examples:
What do you think about it? What colours these could be?
Thanks in advance for all comments!
G.

Interesting about the fuselage. Also, I'm puzzled about the very light colored panels on the top wing. Strange that it's lighter than the white fields behind the crosses. My hunch is it's newly painted with white or light blue.

I can clearly see the "eye" of the fish face on the first machine, and this has me intrigued as well, since I have a job-related interested in this machine right now. My paltry sources have turned up nothing other than the blue-gray machines. I can't even verify the fish scales on the aircraft alleged to have carried those markings.

If not for the uniform appearence of the wings, especially the upper tips/national markings, I would suggest maybe repairs to the wings and a freshly doped surface. Cross fields look like they may have been reduced, they don't match the fuselage or they are earlier version.

Well, I guess, and I do mean guess, one of the standard camo colors of the period. I lean towards a light green. The smeared effect looks to go below the demarcation line in places. Maybe a tinted coat of varnish on the upper? Wing damage/repairs and repainting could the reason for photos and the fueslage cross suggests more than one photo session. But when I first saw the pictures I thought of a light blue fuselage and tail smeared with light grey but couldn't reason out why that would happen.

Interesting??
GrzeM:
I have looked at these pictures for several days, i don't see any purpose in what has been done. My take is the, the inner portion of the upper wing, upper surface, upper surfaces of the lower wing panels and the upper surface of the tailplane have been painted white. The fuselage appears to have been streaked with light grey, or light greyish blue on the upper portion. It looks like they used a broom to get the effect. It's interesting. I believe this Schusta 28b.
blue skies,
Dan-San

Roland
The razor-sharp demarcation line down the middle of the fuselage is interesting. As is the Lewis gun!
