Rudder crosses on Fokker E.III´s

Hello Folks,

did anyone ever make a study with dimensional drawings or sketches of the crosses as have been painted to Fokker monoplanes of the E.III type?

This would safe me some hours if someone could help me out with that.

Thank you!

Cheers!

Achim

E.III rudder cross.

Achim :
The rudder on a Fokker E.III was 600 high and wide, centered 450 mm from the top of the rudder. The end of the arm was 240mm, 120mm either side of the center-line. the radius of the arms were 780mm.

Dan-San

Is there a list of serial and military numbers available somewhere?

I would like to know what military number Fokker E.III serial number 490 has.

Are there any known photographs of that very plane or is the history known?

Thank you!

Cheers!

I may not have been that clear:

Fokker E.III 419/15 was factory serial number 401.

Factory number 490 would than be either

419 + 89 = 508/15

or

??(?)/16

Hello Baldeagle,

you are correct. There have been in use at least two different style stencils for the cross layout at Fokker´s paint shop.

They did appearently did not care much about which plane carried what style of cross during the production run. The later style was used mixed up along with the older style.

Cheers!

Correct cross form>

Achim Engels:
The earlier cross form was used last on w.n 479. Commencing with the February 1916 order for 60 Fok.E.III 190 to 249/16, w.n.482 and subsequent w.n. the standard cross form was used.
You are welcome.

What is the reason to tell us 479 was the last one that had the "old" style crosses? Obviously 488 still also had them. And 401 already had the "new" style crosses painted on.

Was 401 built after 488? Or was it just marked after 488?

However, these crosses can hardly be 600mm in square.
