Question Methuen Handbook of Colour

Hello, All,

Does anyone have a source for the Methuen Handbook of Colour? I've Googled it, to be told that it is no longer in print. Book dealer's websites (ABE Books, for example) don't have it. It's gotta be somewhere, but I guess I'm looking in all the wrong places. Any directions gratefully received. Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Gary

Your local library might be a good place to try. Buying one is extremely difficult and expensive. After years of looking I still do not have one. the best option would be if researchers could quote colour codes that are readily available.

Best of luck,
Langdon

Hello, Langdon,

Yes, I have gone that route as well. I may have to do an interlibrary loan for the book, memorize every page, then send it back!<G> I'll probably take this on as my own "Quest for the Holy Grail," and keep Forumites apprised as to my success (or otherwise!).

Best Regards,

Gary

trackpad, try Amazon books. I have seen it listed there in the past. I have the book and find it to be a good read on the origins/history of colors and how to mix colors using the color wheel, etc. The color samples are printed, not true paint chips, and as such can vary in accuracy and from book to book. For example my 'red' pages, even 'true red', have a slight orange tint to them. I have also read this in book reviews. So it is not as accurate as say, the FS or Munsell standards but it a good general reference for guys like us. I recommend it, good luck with your search.

A wise man once said, "The only thing consistent about WWI aircraft colors is the total lack of consistency."

I picked up the Holt Reinhardt Atlas of Color which is the US version of the same book by Kornerup. I found it through ABE Books.

Tonal qualitie varies slightly between this and Methuen, though I have been told that different editions or even examples of the Methuen book may vary.

I simply check the referenced color and compare with its neighbors to get the color I think is accurate.
