Some question to the autor

Dear Dan San,

Thank you for your work.

I have some question for it:

Albatros D.II

In my opinion in the short of time German aviation start use (probably?) water colors for painting aircraft.
In this time some Alb. D.II was painted in this manner. Please look to your reference no. 18, picture 21 on page 21.
It is famous picture of the Boelcke Alb. D.II and wings of this plane are painted in various colored ‘scumble’ or ‘swirls’. Other pictures shown that it is non unusual method of camouflaging Albatros D.II aircraft.
Other Alb. D.II are painted similar.

I’m interested your opinion...

AEG C.IV

I have question about ‘desert’ camouflage.

The picture in my possession of canvas from AEG C.IV rudder (please see attach) show different colors.
It is souvenir from British squadron served in the Middle East and probably belonged to 4800/17-4899/17 production batch.
Colors are: (some time ago in this forum I sow metuens) 1. Dark bluish-green, 2. Light green, 3. mix of green and purple (colors applied one for another and border mix make different shade), 4. Purple.

What is your opinion?

Regards

Piotr

AEG C.IV camouflage.

Piotr:
Thank you for publishing the photo of the AEG C.IV rudder. In your listing you did not list the rust brown. The problem is the mauve, pale green and light green, all have the approximate grey value in photographs. I am going to see if I can see the other colors in the light green grey value in the photographs.
I have a question, "How do you know the serial number range?'" That is important, please respond to this for me.
Finally do you have any other data/document/colored photos of German aircraft fabrics. This is of help in my work, which all of yu are the beneficaries of.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Is it likely at all that various types of shellac could have been used on Albatros D.I and D.II fuselages?

The only sort of shellac I have any experience with was a medium-to-dark reddish brown color, and I know it comes in a somewhat wide range of colors, even as a wholly natural product.

Looking at my nearly completed Roden early W.4 kit has me a little concerned about how dark I've gotten the fuselage, and I'd like to be better informed before I dig into the D.I kit in my stash.

What color shellac?

TomL:
My person opinion is: Albatros werke used yellow shellac to seal the surface of the birch plywood on the fuselage and fins.
Blue skie,

A blonde-ish, yellowish it shall be, then...now what to do with that poor W.4?

Thanks for the reply.
