Fokker D. VII digital chips- early production

There is four color chips for the Fokker D. VII. Chips are based from data in Windsock and Methuen Handbook of color. The same generating was made in the Adobe Photoshop.

Light green is the base color, over it is the streak in the dark green, underside is the light grey and the metal parts light grey. Methuen values are:

Light Green 26D3
Dark Green 26F8
Light Tirquise 25C5
Light Grey 1C1

Hmmm. Here we go again.
It is my understanding that the base color is CDL and then a single top color (26F8) is used to make dark, intermediate & light variations.
Dan Abbott said, "The measured colors by Paul Leaman were, dark, 26F8; intermediate, 26E8 and light, 26D3. These are distinct enough to be readily seen as bands. However it is the same color diluted by successive strokes on the fabric surface. "

Very well- this mean that Windsock is not enough good reference? This method of painting is somehow look like the technique apply on the Dr. I. Light green presented here not excist as a color and I am glad to hear info. What with other three colors?

My idea is to use some of the reference and create color chips for those I hope that could be helpfull for the enthusiast. If this idea is not welcome just let me know

I don't know how to remove Light green chip from my post so I would like to ask moderator or administrator to do this. Thank you

Hello Sreiko,

Perhaps you should not delete the light green color chip, just edit your first post to clarify that this is the approximate color that you think resulted from the thinner elements of the darker green over the CDL ( or something to that effect).

If I were to do a painting, or a model, the blended color reference would be helpful. Debate on these intermediate shades seems to get overshadowed by the arguements on the number of colors used instead.

I am curious, What is your technique for photoshop, for getting these colors?
(I do a lot of work in Photoshop)

Thank you Rufe for your comment. I must say that jumpinian is correct in his statement and I respect this. But if you say that this light shade is also good to see- no problem.

Technique in photoshop is very easy. Simply have to scan what you have and then to make uniform this sample. You know that color when enlarge you could see noize. So select are and then go to Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur and give it value of some 10 pixels. This will be good enogh.

Other method is to simply compare chip with the color pick on the screen. But there could be made omission. Problem with this digital colors is that maybe I have make perfect sample on my PC and this is excellent view on my calibrated Apple monitor but it is question how this will appear on the other monitors.
