Giant Triplane

Hello. I'm a newbie, first post, so if this has been posted before, my apologies. Does anyone have any information, links, drawings, etc., about the Poll giant triplane which was supposedly being built to bomb New York? Many thanks.

Wheel

Hello Lonestarson,

Look at the wheel. You can get an idea how big the plane must have been.

Hello, lonestarson,

Our publication, WW1 AERO, has carried material on the Bruning-Forssman (the "Poll") Giant Triplane in four issues:

You can order these back issues by calling "Leo" at (845) 473-3679 and please tell him "Carroll" from the Forum suggested you call.

Best,

Giant Triplane

The USAAS had agiant Triplane built in 1922. It was called the Barling Bomber. It was equipped with six engines, four tractor and two pusher of 400 horsepower. It was so underpowered that it took it twenty minutes to climb to seven-thousand feet with no bomb load. Its top speed was under ahundred mile per hour. Even with a little better design that plane was useless. Did the German bomber designers think that plane would get to New York? Those wooden tires would c ause a lot of drag and increase its fuel consumption just as the Barling bomber's . It would only go 170 miles with a bomb load and 335 with no bomb load. I think both of them were complete flops as far as long distance flights were concerned.
