Greetings all;
Consider the rib tape. Since rib tapes were basically fabric sewn and varnished onto ribs or leading / trailing edges of wooden structures, why would you paint them? These items were probably dyed or treated before application.
The fabric covering the airframe was aluminum doped after being tacked inplace on the framework.
For rib tapes to be aluminum doped wouldn't they have to be doped before they were applied? Folding the dried doped edges over to attach them to the wing would crack and split the rib tape doped surface?
