Lt. Hegeler Jasta 15 Pfalz D.III

Hi All!

I'm looking for information about Lt. Hegeler's Jasta 15 Pfalz D.III, specially the colour of wings and undersurfaces.

I've just found in the net a profile of a Glencoe Kit with Jasta 15 royal blue fuselage and red nose, whit a white moon on the sides.

Could anyone help me, please?

Thanks in advance and the best regards from Spain...

Rinahe

Greetings Rinahe;

This machine your wanting information about was an early example and was silver doped over all. The only marking added in the field was a black band that wrapped around the fuselage and had oval discs in the center of the band. See the pertinent Datafile. Pfalz D.III by R. Rimell, Datafile WWI a/c Part 1, Windsock, Albatros Pub. Ltd. Pp.20-31, 1990.

Vzfw. (acting sergeant) Hegeler came from Js 24 on 12Feb18. On 26Feb18he was made a POW near Bonneuil at 9.00 hours in Pfalz D.III 4184/17 by 2/Lt. A.K. Cowper, 24 Sqn. RFC.

Thank you very much for the information, Mr.Lawson. I really apreciate the very detailed data you give me.

So, Vzfw. Hegeler flew in a Silvergrau Pfalz, not in the red and blue machine I saw.

Then, does exist that especific Jasta 15 Pfalz D.III with the marking of the White (I think she is smoking in a pipe) Moon ?

Best regards, (and excuse me for my poor english)

Rinahe

Checking the data from Mr. Lawson, maybe I am wrong and the bird about I was looking for information is not the one flown by Vzfw. Hegeler.

So, could anybody give any information about the unit, pilot, wing colour and undersides of the last profile shown in the link below, please?

(the blue and red Pfalz of the bottom, with a white moon smoking in a pipe)

Thank you very much!

The "man-n-the-moon" marked Pfalz D.III an its parentage can be found in several differnce sources. It was flown at one time by Ltn. Hans Burckhard von Buttlar. He came to Jasta 18 from AFP 8 on 15 Jan 1918. He was transferred on 21 Mar 1918 when Jasta 18 traded identities with Jasta 15.

Understood Mr. Lawson,

Once again, thank you very much.

If I finally make a model of that plane I'll post it in the "Spanish Way" thread.

Best regards,

Rinahe
