Flying-boat Name
Can anyone help out with a named RNAS Curtiss flying-boat please.
This was one of the Curtiss H.12s on a Royal Naval Air Service station in the south-west of England during 1917/1918. Some apparently carried names on the hulls, and a former coxswain is recorded as remembering the "rude names painted on the sides".
One machine was apparently named FILILU, but I am uncertain just what (or how rude) a Fililu was or is, and the name does not seem to be a presentation name.
I have traced a photograph which shows an H.12 in the background which would seem to carry the lettering F │ L │ LU . What might have been the two letters " I " look more like verticals extending above and below the other letters.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
