von Hippel and Albatros C.XII

Turns out von Hippel flew an Albatros C.XII with FA 37 before converting to fighters. The only photo I have of the aircraft shows it burned beyond recognition after von Hippel crashed it. Wonder if it had his blitz/lightning marking on the side?

Taz,

Does von Hippel hold the record for most crashes and walking away to crash another day?

And, was he a truly awful pilot or an extraordinarily lucky one, or a bit of both? (OK, that's a rhetorical question)

His flight log holds an unbelieveable amount of flying time on every type of machine he could get his hands on. Some only two minute flights. Peter Grosz said he seemed to log hours with an eye to getting a commercial license. I have a copy of these hours and did a list of just the WWI stuff. Rather impressive. It seems his hobby was flying in his off duty hours. The stuff after the war got even more intense.

Stephen- Trade you a copy of the C.XII photo for a copy of the log. E-mail me.

My Gallery
Alb. C.XII.

Taz:
All the Alb.C.XII built by Albatros had three color camouflage of light green, dark green and rust brown in assymetric patterns. Commencing with on or about C.1100/17 they were painted in dark green and light green OAW had symetric patterns of dark green, light green and mauve. BFW use symetrical patterns of medium green and mauve.
Blue skies,
Dan

Dan-San- Got that, but still lots of room for a blitz. Will show up in the Datafile by Peter.

One could certainly say von Hippel had determination, considering his resolve to "get right back in the saddle" as it were.

I don't know anything of his post-WWI career. Any chance of relating some highlights, Stephen?

There is always a chance of it! So much on my plate right now. Pete Grosz helped me with a piece some few years back on Von Hippel's aircraft in WWI. I have been tinkering with a published piece on the subject. Maybe I could put it on a CD. Beau Coup 11 X 14" pages involved for every a/c he flew.
