AEG G.IV - camo question
Hi all
Was there a standard scheme for this aircraft? I've seen different versions here and there, but these seem to vary quite alot. Is the aircraft on display at the Canada Aviation Museum the best, most accurate example?

The camouflage of AEG G.IV aircraft.
Jerry Boucher:
The camouflage used on the AEG G.IV were in three schemes.
1. Early camouflage scheme was in dark green and rust brown on the upper and side surfaces and sky blue on the under surfaces.
2. The intermediate scheme was painted regular hexagons in Greyish blue, Greyish magenta, dark green and black.
3. The late scheme was Dark Day/Night Five color Printed Fabric.
I have not concluded the study of the AEG camouflage schemes, so I am unable to identify the scheme to a production order(s).
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Hi Dan-San
Thanks very much for that information - just what I was looking for! What periods of the war would you say covered these 3 schemes?

AEG G.IV Day bomber?
GrzeM:
The AEG G.IV was a day tactical bomber. The AEG G.IV pictured on the cover in dark blue and bluish grey is not correct. The camouflage used on day aircraft in 1916-17 was greens and brown on the upper surface and sky blue on the under surfaces. However there were instances where AEG G.IV were used as night bombers.

Dan-San

Printed Five Color Day/dark Night Pattern?
Hi Dan San, What is the difference between "printed five color day pattern, printed five color day/night pattern, and printed five color night pattern"? Are these three different Flugzeugstoff/Lozenge printed patterns or just three separate combinations? Thank You, FOKKERJ

Printed fabrics.
FokkerJ:
In the Five color printed fabrics there were day upper in moderate colors, about the same intensity as the four color upper. The five color Day/night were intended for use on the upper surface of day aircraft in combination with the day light pattern on the under surfaces. The dark pattern was also for use on night bomber aircraft for use on top and bottom surface. In 1918 another night pattern was introduced of very dark colors for use on night bombers on all surfaces.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
