SE5a 1/32 Roden

Hi there,
I recently got my hands in an SE5a from Roden in 1/32. At first thought, I didn't notice the red "Schweinhund" scheme, but it's interest is ever growing. However, I can't find anything about a red SE5a bearing the name "Schweinhund" and supposedly should have been flown by Captain Duncan Grinnell-Milne of No. 56 Sqn, RAF, late August 1918.
Does any of you have any information or links to any references to this?

Hello Kofoed
Grinnell-Milne did indeed have a Viper powered SE5a ( C'1149) so marked. Grinnell-Milne refers to it himself in 'Wind in the wires' His wartime memoirs. He states "And now I roared over the spot (Aachen) in a SE5a painted bright red, with the Schwienhund in large white letters on the nose to annoy the enemy. A joyful a triumphant return.(Milne had been a prisoner there at Aachen and had been refered to by his captors as Scweinhund!) It is illustrated in 'High in the empty blue' a first class publication by our very own Alex Revell.

This aeroplane was issued to 56 sqdn on 17:10:18. and claimed one DVIII ooc NE of Valenciennes on the 3:11:18.The red scheme is immediate post war and was used for the last time in January 1919 before being transferred to 1 sqdn and finally struck off charge on the 5:2:19.

I belive he had more than one SE5a with the name schweinhund and was up to about NoIII but it was only the last that was painted red.

Hello Yeoman,
Thanks a lot for your answer. I consider painting it PC10 and put on the "Scheinhund" text, then. Apparantly there's no serial no. on it.
This is truly a wonderful spot for people like us. Direct contact to loads of knowledge about WWI air warfare.
Also, I immediately believe in your last comment. I shall expect to live 'till I'm at least 150 years, then.
Thank you.

My Gallery
Fok.D.VIII???

Yeomen:
If you recheck, page 382 of "High in the Empty Blue" you will find that Duncan Grinnel-Milne shot down a Fokker D.VII, not a Fok.D.VIII. As far as I know, no Fok.D.VIII was issued to any font-line Jasta.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Thanks again

Hello Fileunderfire and Dan San,
Thanks for your interest.
Fileunderfire, I stick to the decals, they say "Schweinhund". I guess that's correct, isn't it?
Dan San, thanks for the information.

GMs war memoirs are available in his book, Wind in the Wires. You can probably find a copy on Amazon.
