Damn Tim, you are correct as usual, thought I double checked the fuselage cross field, but looks like I used the standard Dr.1 position... time to do some repainting. Want to at least get that right, and photos clearly show it should be closer to the front of the fuselage.
And to answer Alex, the wing with the cross on it is not the fokker F.1 wing, it is the Revell Fokker Funfdecker (a carichture (sic) kit with 5 wings & stylized crosses, I used the kit decals since they are kind of neat looking)
The F.1 wing does not have the crosses applied yet, but they will be the correct Fokker style crosses.
More to come, have some repainting to do on the rear fuselage
Dave

Yeah but I'd rather fix it & make it right if I can! luckily not much required than to repaint the white field linen, then add some more streaks. I just scanned a photo of F.1 103 and reduced it to the same size as my model fuselage, will be able to get the correct placement of the white fields this time for sure? have to wait a couple of days for the streaks to dry first then will spray the white. But I was able to get the upper wing cross decals on last night, photos to follow later today!

Good thats it not a big deal. I didnt realize it takes days for that stuff to dry. Nothing like watching paint dry.

One thing that is neat about doing WWI stuff and especially the Dr.I is that we dont know everything. There is an element of discovery and thats kind of fun.

Yeah the Fokker olive that I'm using for the streaks & metal parts is made by Agama. It is from the Czech republic and comes in small tins like Humbrol enamels. I think it is an enamel but takes a lot longer to dry than my normal Testors paint. Plus I thinned it with enamel paint thinner (use the gallon can from Home Depot) for the streaks, also tried laquer thinner when I airbrushed it, no matter what it still takes a couple of days to dry thoroughly. And need a good dry streaky finish before I mask it off and spray the white.
Drys a little faster than oils but not like the enamels I'm used to.

Well some god news, I was able to speed up my paint drying by using an old "paint dryer" actually a food dehydrator designed to make beef jerkey, has a low dry heat that is safe on styrene plastic (but don't try it on resin, I have had some problems with that!) and applied the white cross fields in the correct position as verified by a photo that I scanned, reduced to same size as the 1/48 scale kit and applied tape while holding the scanned picture right next to the fuselage.
Also a picture of the upper wing with correct Eiserne Kreuze from an old Americal Gryphon decal sheet.
Last but not least, a photo of the 2 cowls, the F.1 in olive with white face decal applied, and the Funfendecker in chrome yellow with white face hand painted.
Also converted photos to greyscale images and this will let you compare them to BW photos. The yellow definately looks light, not sure about the ortho film used on the originals but using modern greyscale I say the yellow cowl definately does not match any known photos of Voss's aircraft.
