Lloyd- Some new, factory fresh photos of Dr.I 450/17, WN 2075 just surfaced and it was too early a serial number to have the olive stripe on the bottom of the rudder. Have to look further and figure exactly where that transition took place.

Mr. West, I want to apologize for seemingly having hi-jacked this thread. I'm sorry. After my first post, I tried to find a way to delete my posting but could not. Nevertheless, if you don't mind ...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Lawson, what do you mean "wing edging was red"? Front edge (where the moon-shaped curves are on my pic?

What kind of red? bright? All 3 wings? Are there color images (models or paintings) that can give me an idea? I've seen models, but none with red...

Thank you...

If no one objects, I'd like to post the (small) images from the links above. ???

The wings on "gonw" not the aircraft wings. The forward edge is depicted as red by Jacobs in his sketch to Neal O' Connor. If you have seen the DML kit with this scheme the decals are reproductions of this. The flames are depicted by him as red as well.

I believe he had this on 450/17 and after Oct 3 it was reproduced on 470/17.

Thank you Stephen, I get it now. I'd just seen too many differing color versions of GONW that I figured the matter had not been certain.

Here is my new "devil":

Thanks again,

Art

Excellent! I wish I had some of your art to hang in the Jacobs display at the foundation.
