Jasta 5 "Green Tails"

I most always thought Jasta 5's Albatrosse (Albatros Scouts) were Green tailed with a Red out line.
Then I noticed that at the end of AMERICAL/GRYPHON's catalog that they offered decals for Jasta 5 for "Green" tails, "Blue" tails, and "Red" tails, a sheet each. A/G's Dr. Merril is well known for his thorough research efforts.
Can anyone please enlighten me on the three or more colors of tail at Jasta 5?

Any information is greatly appreciated as always.

Regards, FOKKERJ

I believe that I've seen the "Bavarian" Blue and White Diamod pattern on the tail on an Albatros of Jasta 5.

You certainly have. Somewhere I have all my old records which show the pilots (where known) of all of the individual aircraft. The one of which you speak was a DII and appears in the famous lineup photo of April 1917 (IIRC, I'll check my records as my memory is not reliable between the two sets of lineup photos.). I think it also had a Bavarian Lion crest on it about centre fuselage.

The other famous lineup is almost certainly in January 1918 by which time the tails were green/red outline. A quick examination of Dr Merrill's book will tell me but I think I recall that he puts the date of introduction of the Green tails as between 2 July 1917 and 25th July 1917. (sorry it has been a few years).

I'll dig out the stuff and post again.

Darryl

Hurrah for the next that dies!
