I am looking for some French Esquadrille markings?
Gentlemen,
I am in the process of doing several repaints of Stuart Green's SPAD VII for FS2004 (and CFS2). I have the profiles (and all the National Insignia) I need, but the Esquadrille markings in the profiles leave much to be desired. Short of making my own (which I shall if I must), are there any places here or on the wide web that has images of these French Esquadrille markings?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Caz Dalton

Red- The best source for Escadrille markings is the SHAA book Les escadrilles de l' aeronatique militaire francaise Symbolique et histoire 1912-1920. Hard to find, though, and expensive.

Hi Red,
Probably among the two sites Bruno (Froggy) will recommend you will be Denis Albin's one, wich is not complete yet :
Translated version of http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/page_1_a_99.htm
This is Escadrilles from 1 to 100 ;
Select for exemple from 1 to 10 and, then 1st one and, to continue,
please click everytime on "page suivante" ...

Ampovandak- Thanks for the additional information. I had Denis' Escadrille 62 web site, but did not know he had expanded. His site still has tons on Esc. 62, which I seem to remember was his first love.

There's also "L'Aviation Française 1914-1940. Ses Escadrilles. Ses Insignes" put together by Moreau-Berillon, all in French, published in a limited edition of 1000, and comprising eight portfolios. A really nice set, but expensive. Usually goes over $500.

My 2 cents, you're much better off making your own unless you care more about doing them quickly rather than accurately. If you start comparing graphic representations of these marking to photos of the real thing you'll find they are off by more than a little in most cases. Some are downright terribly inaccurate.
But I guess it depends more on how you work and what you want out of it.

BLOWHARD, I do make my own, but I do like a large enough pattern or template to go by, these will fit the bill as they are larger than what I have in the profiles.
Thanks all,
Caz

Another good reference, and relatively cheap (I got mine for € 15/$ 23), is "L'Armee de l'Air (1)", no author listed, published by Editions Atlas, Paris in 1992. ISBN 2-7312-1202-0 Doc
