Question Albatros D.I, Jasta 6

Exist some information, photography or reference on how the painting or particular marks in the Albatros D.I of Jasta 6, in November 1916?
Specifically, I am interested to know your comments on the plane D.I 450/16 where Ernst Wever died, a victory credited to Alfred Hertaux.
If you know some detail in relation to aircraft pilot by Hertaux that day would be interesting to know some of information.
Thank you for your time.
Greetings!
Dario

I can't help you with the individual markings, but the best article I know of on the factory paint scheme is "The Camouflage and Markings of the Albatros D.II Aircraft" by Dan-San Abbott. Although the title says Alb D.II it also covers the Alb D.I. It can be found in the articles section of this forum.

Bonjour Dario!

I am not aware of a photograph of Albartos D.I 450/16, but, the following comments written by Greg VanWyngarden, which are to be found in Windsock Datafile 100, Albatros D.I/D.II, may be of some use.

"Some of the D.I aircraft of the first production batch (D.422-471/16) featured very dark fuselages with undersides that were clearly painted light blue"

Of course what you need is a photograph, though, as Ernst Wever was sent down in flames an image of the crashed aircraft would be of little use in determining the colours and markings.

Sorry That I Could Offer No Details
Kirk

By the way ... the English is fine

Dario:
I am going to dig out the photos of this plane and see what I can provide in camouflage data. I reply tomorrow.

My Gallery
Alb.D.I 450/16 finish.

Dario_Silva:
Sorry for the delay, I had a bad day yesterday. I would suggest you click on the Articles Section, and then click on The Camouflage and Markings of the Albatros D.II. The Alb.D.I is covered on pages 4, 5 and 6 in detail.
From Alb.D.I 436/16, the three color camouflage was used on the Alb.D.I, so Alb.D.I 450/16 would have had the wings, tailplane and and rudder. On some Alb.D.I machines, the fuselage was painted in the camouflage colors. Alb.D.I 435/16 was one that had the camouflaged in two colors of olive green and rust brown. Those that the fuselage was not camouflaged, the fuselage and fins was shellacked and varnished, resulting in a warm yellow color. Without seeing a photograph of Alb.D.I 450/16, I can only guess that the fuselage were shellacked anf varnished. The under surface of the wings, tailplane, both sides of the wheel covers and those fuselages that were camouflaged on the top and side surfaces were painted sky blue.
All the struts, cowlings, spinner, access doors, metal fittings and foot step were light greyish green.
I hope this is of help.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Albatros D.I 450/16... plain factory finish.

The Albatros 450/16 was in factory plain finish, varnished fuselage/fin etc. as described by Dan-San. Rudder was overpainted darker color as per other early D.Is. The cross markings were 1916-style as used by Albatros on C.III, VI, V/16, and VII, as well as D.I and early D.IIs. Consisted of iron cross inside of white box with cross ends touching edge of boxes. Send me your email address and I'll send you a copy of the photo. This photo appeared in Rendsburg's article in OTF.

Hello Dario !

Probably an early Spad 7. Heurtaux is said to have used Spad 7 S113 (one of the very first) in automn 1916. This plane was delivered in august; I do not know if it was still in use in november. Heurtaux's personal number was 11.
