RedBlue w/Skull
I've started painting a skin for this handsome plane. I'm wanting as much information about this plane as possible, especially: Pilot Name, squadron and FOK (Serial Number)/18, is it an F(OAW) plane, etc.
Plus, would the louvres on the nose be similar to this plane from the Great War Flying Museum? Were these in the same squadron?
Thank you,
Art

There is a famous set of photos of this plane after it was shot down on June 17, 1918. Check the Osprey Fokker DVII Aces of WW1 book. Pg 65 & 66 feature those photos. Looks like it was an early model DVII with the exhaust coming out the side of the cowl. Hopefully Greg VanWyngarden can chime in here and give full details.

Given the fine Osprey book of GregVanWyngarden you find all the info on page 65 in the image caption.
It was the machine of Lt. Georg von Hantelmann (Jasta 15)
Serial No. 382/18
Fokker Werkenr.:2469
Mercedes Engine No.:41245
The machine was crashed on 17 June 1918 by Kurt Wüsthoff who had borrowed the machine on that day.

Art,
I just finished up a 2-month study, to provide precise color infomation & markings to my friend that is building a flying replica of Hantelmann's 382/18 D7.
One thing I noticed is the "totenkopf" (dead head) needs to be bigger. Look at my profile at that link and you will see what I mean.

You should probably ditch the fuselage stenciling, that's over-painting in the field, not at the factory. Definitely check out Fokker D.VII Anthology 1 along with Jan's post.
You might want to dig this one as well-

Thanks again, guys. I'm updating the image again. I've shifted the color more towards the green and less magenta, darkened it some too. The totenkopf is larger and I've painted over the stencils for serial numbers and weights notation.

Is that the new image there? The skull and stenciling still looks the same.
If it is new the stenciling should be almost invisible but the fuselage cross should be visible. The skull fills the whole area between to top and bottom of the fuselage sides. I take it you've got no photos to look at? Jan's side profile looks pretty perfect in that case. You'll also need the 2 forward louvers.
...or, maybe the new image is the wrong one?
