Nie.17 of Sergent Jean Paul Maurice Boyau, Esc. N.77
Forumites,
I hope this is the right forum in which to post this question. Does anyone here have an idea as to the s/n of the Nie.17 flown by Sergent Jean Paul Maurice Boyau of Esc. N.77 during 1917? I would like to use the markings option for this a/c included in the 1/72nd Eduard Nie.17 kit, but they do not give a s/n, and little more than a side view in the color guide. The only photo of this a/c that I have is the single one on page 31 of the Nie.17 DF which only shows part of the right side.
The markings of this a/c are really awesome and would look great ont eh shelf. Any help or advice on this front would be most welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Warren

Bruno,
Thanks so much for replying. I thought as much, but that it couldn't hurt to ask here since many of you have access to more info on these a/c than my meager library allows. Nice build btw.

Froggy,
Great looking Nieu. 17. What scale and kit is it, and where did the pilot figure come from?
best wishes,
Scott

Bonjour Warren!
No, I do not know the serial number of that Nieuport 17 ...zut!
You may want to cast an eye to the Osprey volume Nieuport Aces of World War 1 by Franks which features a profile of the aircraft by Dempsey which offers a detailed interpretation of the colours. The description given includes the following comments: "As far as is known there is no photographic evidence showing the tail of the snake". If neither Franks or Dempsey are aware of other photographs of the Nieuport, it would seem, that we must wait for a new discovery to be made to learn the serial number.
Best Of Luck With The Build!

Kirk,
Thanks! Not finding anything is disappointing on one hand, but very liberating on another. Depending on the philosophy, I can put most any Nie. serial and no one can tell me that it's wrong, right? I have a Super-Scale sheet of French nat'l. insignia and it comes with some Nieuport serials:
N.1895
N.1976
N.1834
N.1850
N.1962
IIRC, one of these was one of Nungesser's mounts. Anyone know anything about the others?

... hhmm ... N.1962 is the serial number of a Nieuport flown by Edmond Genet while serving with N124 and, you are correct, N.1895 is the serial number of a Nieuport flown by Nungesser, more than one actually! Désolé mon ami, but I am unaware of details in respect of the other Nieuport serial numbers listed. Perhaps Bruno or another of our colleagues from France could be of assistance ...
Salut!
Kirk
