burgundy Pfaltz of Marwitz

Hello everybody,

I just bought the excellent Osprey book, "Pfaltz Scout Aces of WW1". There are pofiles of two Pfaltz's flown by Ltn Marwitz, one in silver (4203/17) with the orange tail and the other a burgundy machine (unknown serial). The tail on the burgundy machine is not shown in the picture so the profile has provisional markings. Could it be possible that the burgundy machine was simply 4203/17 with the silver areas overpainted in burgundy and therefore still have the orange tail? Or did something happen to write off 4203-17?

Thanks,
Erik

My Gallery
Jasta 30 Brown Pfalz D.IIIa.

erikr:
Ltn. Han-Georg von der Marwitz's Pfalz D.IIIa 4---/17 did not have the orange, black bordered fin and rudder of his aluminum colored Pfalz D.IIIa 4203/17. The fin was brown with a white rudder with a black balken cross.
The brown tailplane had a large orange lozenge with a narrow black border.
The under surfaces of the wings and tailplane were aluminum, the upper surfaces of the wings, fuselage, wheel covers and all struts were brown. The black bordered orange lozenge was painted on both sides of the fuselage, below the cockpit.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
