Mate,
In a word - yes. But wait until my book comes out, it has a lot of good, knuckle biting, bleary-eyed, mind boggling info that is sure to please at least some of you.

Tripe cowling: actually Voss's markings were not a caricature of the Kaiser, but instead were based on kites from his family's time in China.

Mate,
I thought it was Japan, at least that is what I have always read.

For the interested.

The great photo in post #13 of 56 Sqn SE's contains one marked 'V' - which is a bit of an old wives tale related to Harlyford's seminal 'Von Richthofen and the Flying Circus' which showed a photo of a 'V' marked C5430 with the incorrect caption that the pilot in photo was Capt Mayberry - in reality the phot was circa Apr-May 18 and of Capt Jarvis. But it became fashionable to figure 'V' marked SE in painting's and even History channel special's of Voss' last fight.

Merry Christmas to All

Russ

Wow tcrean7828, can't wait for the book! So when's it coming out? Btw, does anyone have any references or pictures or descriptions of what the tracers looked like back then? Like I had posted earlier, only "The Flyboys" has shown 'em and I just want to be sure that they looked like the smokey vapor trails as depicted in the film.

Hi Russ,

Do you know the correct markings for Mayberry's SE? If you don't know, perhaps we could get Alex Revell to help out.

Steve

P.S. There might be a reason why the planes in post #13 are marked the same as the planes on the history channel.

Mate,
Maybery was in SE5a B1, coded “K”, this info comes straight from the source and his files = Alex Revell.

My Gallery
Hi,

Just a response to Mayberry's plane on Dogfights...Ooops I had him as "V".....actually I think I have a copy of the photo mentioned. The one thing about the HC shows.....they dont have a huge staff of fact checkers...lol, I was the fact checker....with a lot of help from this forum, I did my best

The biggest problem is time. I had about a week or so to research and submit a profile pack for the whole episode. Then a week or 2 for each segment I worked on. So at one point you just have to run with what you've got.

I think the series did a dandy job =P
