Voss Albatros DIII

Mauve and green is what I've seen on Voss' DIII that had the wreath and Swastica markings (however, may have been brown and green also).

If you look at photos of almost all WW1 aeroplanes from a flat angle, there is a sheen to the finish. It's my understanding the fabric portions were clear doped, then doped with color and the final coats were a varnish of some type. I am no expert, however.

Hi tengew,

Voss' Albatros D.III had the standard painted camouflage for such early Albatros-built D.III's. Chestnut or reddish brown (Venetian red), dark olive green and a light Brunswick green. Dan-San can tell you more. In fact, Dan-San is certain there were two different D.III's in Voss' makings - both would have had the three color painted camouflage.

This would mean that Dave Johnson's beautiful 1/3rd scale DIII had/has the incorrect colors, as his shows the Mauve camo.

My Gallery
Matt or semi matt paintswere used.

Tengew:
The paints and or lacquers were matt or semi matt, they were not glossy.
Look at the photographs, no shine.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
