Knowlton D.VII visit

Greetings, everyone!

I will be traveling to the Brome County Historical Museum in a few weeks to have a look at their Fokker D.VII. I have obtained permission to trace the four-color fabric on the airframe.

My intent is to compare all the tracings and see what they reveal about the structure of the pattern and distortion. Hopefully, I will be able to create a master pattern from the tracings. I will then be comparing the new master pattern to established pattern maps (such as Windsock Datafile's) to see if there are any variations.

Does anyone have any requests while I have access to this unique specimen?

Cheers!

Tom

Tom,
Glad that you are going. It is an unforgetable sight (and site!)
Please be trés careful with your tracing as the fabric is more brittle than it first appears.
Interested to read your posts after your visit.
Regards,
JOhn

John:

Indeed! I will use the greatest caution. I am only attempting this because it I an be done without any harm to the airframe covering.

I intend to utilize sheets of clear acetate held in place with magnets. The tracing will be done with felt tip markers. It should only require a light touch.

And of course, I will be wearing white cotton gloves.

Cheers!
