McCudden's Blue Pup Revisited

Last December, I posted an inquiry for any available information on what was described as McCudden's sky blue Pup. My interest was based on the notion that this would be an excellent choice for a flying scale model, in lieu of the usual PC10 color scheme for aircraft of this type. There was very little response to the original post, and I concluded that there was insufficient data available for an authentic model.

I was very pleasantly surprised to receive the most recent issue of C&CI (Vol 40/3) which featured a five page feature on McCudden's blue Pup, A7311, by Mick Davis. The article includes several splendid photos of A7311, both before and after receiving it's new blue paint scheme, and a color profile and plan view. After studying the article, I can now say without reservation that this would indeed be an excellent subject for a scale model.

In addition to A7311, a companion article, also by Mick Davis, illustrates three other very colorful Pups from the Central Flying School at Upavon. These were unarmed, but they also offer some intriguing model options. Anyone interested in modeling the Pup who would like to make a visual impact beyond the dreary sameness of PC10 really should obtain a copy of C&CI 40/3, and check out the options shown (all with color reference views).

Hi Dale..
No. In addition to A7311, the other Pups were D4073, C374, and D4077. These aircraft were mostly Cockade Blue, White, and Incredibly Gaudy with stripes respectively.

Sorry, no checkerboard patterns.

The Black & White checkerboard was AH Cobby's. The AFC training stations in the UK also had many interesting schemes. My 1/3rd scale pup will be D4170 as per this replica that belong to the RAAF Historical Flight :
