Question on an Albatros D.Va

I figure this is a long shot but I might as well try - About ten or twelve years ago I found a picture (not photo) of an Albatros D.V or Va on the internet. It had lozenge wings, tail and rudder. On the sides in black paint was the name 'Lili'. As I recall this was in German type. I want to model that airplane but can't find the picture anywhere in my files or on the internet. Does anybody know of this airplane or if it even existed? I'd like to get the serial number if possible and see a picture again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pablo,

Probably not your "LILI", but there was an Albatros D.II Oeffag in Austro-Hungarian markings with "LILLI" on the tailplane's fin.

Best Wishes, FOKKERJ

Could it have been "Lulu" instead of "Lili"?

Yours Mikko

Ps. Forumite Brad Cancian has built a stunning model of the very Albie:

I found the Albatros with 'Lulu' and wondered the same thing. Funny, I feel certain it was 'Lili' but it looks like I'll go with Lulu, or possibly leave it unmarked, find a couple of German mechanics and substitute a paint brush for whatever tool they have. Do a diorama of a newly arrived aeroplane about to be personalized.

Thanks for your responses.

On page 33 of Mr. VanWyngarden's "Albatros Aces of WWI-Part 2" there is a picture of an Albatross DIII flown by Julius Buckler. According to the caption, this DIII was named "Mops", as were all of Buckler's planes-except for a reserve plane that, "his growing success garnered him". The reserve plane was named "Lily". On pg 58 there is a color plate a Buckler's DV "Mops". The unit is Jasta 17; appears to be mostly natural wood finish, black tail, with a broad red band aft of the cockpit. There is a blue field in the band with "Mops" in white. Wouldn't have taken much for the painters to do the same for "Lily"?
